Frugality: a noble value. Trouble is, if you've got a disorganized nature, the frugal life can seem daunting. How do tightwad friends remember all those prices, bargains, shopping bonanzas? Is the warehouse mega-pack a true bargain? When is a sale a sale?

Holidays to remember

From culinary.net

Make Christmas holidays memorable with a fun, festive brunch. Trim the table with sprigs of evergreen, pinecones and a festive gingerbread house decked out in candy, icing and sprinkle splendor.

The main dish, Snowflake Breakfast Bake, doubles as a delicious centerpiece. Simply layer frozen potatoes, ham and cheese in the snowflake-shaped pan, pour in a mixture of egg, milk and biscuit mix, and bake. Round out the merry menu with tasty, homemade fruit muffins and a mixed green salad. Naturally sweet, nutrient rich dried California figs add flavor and flair to the homemade Fig-Cranberry-Orange Muffins and the Holiday Fig and Feta Salad.

Kitchens big enough to cook in – is it too much to ask?

By Prue Leith

From House to Home, a major conference for housebuilders, policymakers and sociologists is on November 20-21. Here, Prue Leith, cookery doyenne, discusses the bad effects poor design has on our lives

You would think the national Home Builders’ Federation would jump at the chance to build better designed social housing instead of the rabbit hutches currently on offer.

Would not it give them a nice glow to know that they’d provided enough space to not only store the ironing board, but also unfold and use it, somewhere to stash the kids' toys, and a kitchen big enough to sit down and eat in?

Meal Planning Made Easy

From Chefmon.com

It's no fun trying to decide what to make for dinner every night. Planning your meals ahead of time often saves you time as well as money. Author Rachel Paxton shows us a game plan.

Weekly meal planning

There are many different ways to plan your meals. How you plan yours depends on how much time you want to spend now to save yourself time later.

I plan my meals once a week. Because I have limited refrigerator/freezer space and a small family of three to feed, this plan seems to work best for me. I only go to the grocery store once a week. When I'm getting ready to go to the store, I sit down and starting planning my menu for the next week.

Clean Out the Refrigerator: New Year Resolution

by Cynthia Townley Ewer, Editor

OrganizedHome.Com

Standing in line at the supermarket check stand, nobody can deny that we're on the dreary downside of a new year. Tabloid headlines scream the weight-loss secrets of the stars, while traditional women's magazine covers sing siren songs of money-saving, belly-busting, speed-cleaning tips, tricks and techniques.

We ourselves? All those resolutions that looked so basic, so easy, so noble through the champagne haze of New Year's Eve have lost their rosy glow viewed in the stark light of a morning cup of coffee. With the children back to school and holiday decorations back in their attic boxes, our resolve for a better, thinner, healthier and wealthier year has once more washed up against the hard and niggling realities of daily life.

Colorful Parties

You can organize a Party without spending a lot of money or time. The key is to use colorful or funny plates.

This is when we invited Carolina's mother. There were 20 of us at home.

This is Maria's birthday. The pink bags and straws were bought in a dime store.

This is a party with friends. The fish plates were so colorful that we hardly needed to decorate the table at all!

These are some ideas. Although in this case the finger food was rather elaborated you can achieve the same results even with simple dishes.

Try it and enjoy it!
